Tax Exiles

My long running campaign in Parliament to stop tax exiles from bankrolling British political parties has been successful.

In future, those who give large sums of money to political parties will have to pay tax in this country. Astonishingly, this has not always been the case.

I have always believed that rich individuals who bankroll our politics in this way are buying influence across a range of policies, including taxation.

However, victory is bitter sweet. I have the satisfaction of seeing my amendments to the Bill close a gaping loophole in the law, but it will not take effect until next year after further consultation by the independent watchdog, the Electoral Commission.
