Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends are local people who have been affected by cancer. They have been battling to keep the full range of cancer services at Airedale hospital and, specifically, a dedicated in-patient oncology ward. NHS chiefs want to make Bradford the main centre although they stress patients have a choice about where they can go. The group has won significant local backing. The doctors at the Barlick Medical Centre told the Group: “We are very happy with the extremely high standard of care our patients receive at Airedale Oncology Unit and are fully supportive of your attempts to keep it open.” I want the NHS to start listening to local people, especially when their views are shared by local doctors. |
