REAL HELP NOW

News that unemployment had broken through the two million barrier last month made sobering reading.

The recession, which started in the financial sector, is now rapidly spreading into the rest of the economy. And Pendle, as elsewhere, is being hit.

The Government’s “Real Help Now” initiative is designed to make people more aware of the help available to families and business.

It can be downloaded from www.realhelpnow.gov.uk

The support is aimed at individuals and businesses. Homeowners in difficulties with their mortgage or people seeking employment or training.

There is also advice for businesses with cash flow problems and larger businesses needing working capital.

We all hope the recession will be short and shallow and the economy will start to grow again.

The Government has recently done a deal with the East Lancashire local authorities, handing over greater responsibilities in 15 key areas including employment and skills, transport, regeneration and housing.

The aim is to grow the economy by around £400 million, providing new jobs and higher level skills for
thousands of people.
