Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, has pledged that all Pendle people who lost out as a result of the abolition of the 10p rate of income tax will be fully compensated and the money they lost will be backdated to 1 April, the start of the financial year. Speaking from Westminster: "Frank Field has withdrawn his amendment to the Finance Bill on the basis of a clear undertaking by the Government to compensate and backdate in this financial year. I have spoken to Frank personally to reassure myself that all groups of taxpayers are covered. It is important now to get on with this work and complete it as quickly as possible." "There will be an opportunity to discuss this further on Monday (28 April) during the Committee stage of the Finance Bill." The MP added: "This terrible mistake should never have happened. The issue is now being addressed and I apologise to all my constituents who are on the receiving end of this blunder." |
