Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, has welcomed reports that the Government is prepared to look again at introducing individual voter registration.

The BBC reported yesterday that Ministers are considering the position following the publication of a highly critical report from the independent Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust which says Britain’s electoral registration system is wide open to fraud.

Speaking from Westminster, the MP said: “Individual voter registration is essential if we are to clean up our elections.”

“I want local newspapers to join in my campaign for individual voter registration.”

“Next month I shall be meeting Sam Younger, the Chair of the Electoral Commission, and I shall be raising my concerns with him. I also intend to raise the issue in the Commons.”
