The number of unemployed people in Pendle claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance in December 2009 was 2,087. This represents a rate of 5.2% of the economically active population, the 313th highest of the 646 UK constituencies. The number of Pendle people claiming JSA is 39 lower than in November 2009. Speaking from Westminster, local MP, Gordon Prentice, commented: “This is welcome news but we are not out of the woods yet. Britain is an open economy and the global recession has hit us hard.” “We must grow our way out of this recession. The “savage cuts” promised by other political parties is absolutely the wrong response.” ends |
