Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, is backing moves to stop young people using sunbeds. And he wants tanning salons to be staffed.

The MP says he will be enthusiastically supporting Julie Morgan’s Private Member’s Bill to prevent under 18s from using sunbeds.

Speaking from Westminster today, the MP said: “Cancer Research tells us that children increase their risk of getting skin cancer in later life by using sunbeds. The Charity’s recent survey of young people in Liverpool and Sunderland discovered that half of all 15-17 year old girls had used sunbeds.”

The MP added: “Indeed, malignant melanoma is now the biggest cancer affecting young people from 15 to 34.”

“Cancer Research claims there is strong evidence linking sunbed use with skin cancer.”

The Bill has its second reading in the Commons on 29 January.
