Pendle MP Gordon Prentice went for a nature ramble today as guest of the
Alkincoates Woodland Nature Reserve Group. He joined Carol Riley, Group Chair, Vaughan Jones of Pendle Council’s Tourism Unit, John Lamb of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Kevin Singleton, Group member, for a tour of the 8 hectare site between Holt House playing fields and Red Lane

The MP commented: “The work that has gone into the site recently has made it into a real jewel in the crown for Colne. Paths with easy gradients make walks very accessible, and the views in all directions—to Boulsworth, to Pendle and North over Foulridge reservoir are a revelation.

“The planting work done by the Group is bringing in all sorts of animals and insects. I was told that four varieties of bats have now been seen on the site, as well as an increasing variety of birds and butterflies.

“It is a fantastic place for recreation and education. Everyone involved deserves a pat on the back.”
