The Government’s announcement of a new £5 million small retailers capital grant fund has been welcomed by Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice. The MP said: “Alan Campbell, Home Office Minister for Crime Reduction, told me that £5 million has been made available for a fund to help businesses and other groups to tackle crime. Pendle is one of the areas chosen to receive it.” “Together with the recently announced money for Town Centre Funding coming from the Communities Department, this will be a welcome boost for local shopkeepers. Although overall crime is going down, shoplifting offences have increased by 10 per cent in the last year due to the economic downturn.”
Applications for grants can be made on Eligible retailers can apply for grants of up to £3,000, and groups of them up to £50,000. The grants can be used for security devices, physical securioty improvement, stock loss equipment and equipment to tackle fraud.
