Gordon Prentice has received news from the Pakistani High Commission about what is being done to stop the violent attacks on Christians in Pakistan which have flared up again recently. It was reported that some forty houses were set ablaze and eight people killed in the town of Gojra in the Punjab earlier this month.

The MP said: “The High Commissioner told me that several measures have been taken, including arrests and extra security. A relief commissioner has been appointed and a police post is being constructed in the area.”

The MP added: “According to reports, the blasphemy laws are being misused to settle personal scores and rivalries. This has led to Pakistan having the highest increase in threats against minorities in the world last year. I am pressing the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, for a response to the situation.”
