The telecoms watchdog, Ofcom, is helping mobile phone users get a better deal. And the initiative is backed by local MP, Gordon Prentice. The regulator has given the thumbs up a bill comparison site – Billmonitor - which allows users to compare their current mobile contract with over 3 million deals across the major mobile companies. Ofcom says users can input their own monthly usage or let Billmonitor analyse their online bills and recommend a plan tailored for the user, whether they prefer to text, chat or download. Check it out at http://www.billmonitor.com/mobile/ The time consumers will have to wait to seek an independent resolution of their disputes with telecoms companies will be reduced under new rules introduced by Ofcom. Ofcom has also announced faster complaints resolution Currently consumers must wait 12 weeks for companies' to resolve their complaint before going to a dispute resolution service. New rules, which come into force on 1 September 09, mean consumers can use the service 8 weeks after making an initial complaint to a company. Find out how to complain: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/guides/complain.pdf Speaking from his Pendle constituency earlier today, the MP said: “Mobile phone tariffs and contracts can be a real minefield. Ofcom deserves a pat on the back for doing this.” |
