What the media says about me...

"Paul Flynn and Gordon Prentice have become this Parliament’s saltiest select committee interrogators. They have been consistent value for money, pulling apart a succession of crooks, con men and blue-sky pseuds."

Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, has renewed his call for an official inquiry into the Iraq War.

The MP was speaking at Westminster following an Opposition Day debate yesterday called by the Conservatives.

The MP warned the Conservatives to "show some humility because without them we would never have gone to war". He told the Commons: "Only six Conservatives voted against the war, whereas 140 Labour Members voted against it, as well as, creditably, the Liberals and the other minor parties."

The MP added: "We have had a series of inquiries but they have all been restricted in scope. We need a full, comprehensive public inquiry before memories fade."

"My preference would be for a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry with full powers to call for papers and summon persons.

The Government has promised to set up an inquiry as soon as possible after 31 July 2009, once all combat troops have returned from Iraq. The nature of the inquiry, public or private, judicial or otherwise, has still to be settled.
