Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, is to call for a mandatory register of lobbyists in a special adjournment debate that he has been granted next Wednesday (11 February).

Speaking from Westminster, the MP said: "The newspaper revelations over the past few weeks make the case for full transparency on who is lobbying whom, and for what purpose."

"We also need to tackle the "revolving door" where former Government Ministers and senior civil servants end up on the payroll of companies they may have had dealings with, or an interest in, while in office."

The Pendle MP is a member of the Public Administration Select Committee whose report: "Lobbying: Access and Influence in Whitehall" was published on 5 January 2009
