Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, has congratulated Barrowford Parish Council on getting a road safety initiative up and running for 2009. Funding has been obtained from the local Safety Partnership to allow 18-25 year old drivers from in and around the village to enrol in a ten-week course run by the Institute of Advanced Motorists. The first three drivers began their course this week. The course culminates in a test examined by a local police driving expert. The MP, who has been campaigning to reduce the number of deaths on Lancashire’s roads, said: “This is a valuable project which will help give young drivers the vital skills they need to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe. It complements the workshops offered by Brierfield Action in the Community last year, which targeted the young people who are most at risk of committing driving related offences.” |
