Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, today welcomed a Budget which he claims is designed to keep the economy growing and on an even keel. Speaking from Westminster after the Chancellor's statement to the Commons, the MP said: "Everyone knows there are difficult times ahead as the world economy wrestles with globally rising fuel and food prices. The Government's aim is to keep employment rising and inflation low as our economy faces the challenges ahead." The economy has grown for an unprecedented 62 successive quarters. "I am also delighted at the measures taken to tackle child poverty and the extra £50 to over 60’s households and £100 for over 80’s households on top of the Winter Fuel Payment. I know fuel prices are a real concern." “16,990 people in Pendle will be getting extra cash to help pay their heating bills this year." “The Budget also focuses on climate change, encouraging people to shift to less polluting vehicles." "Climate change is the biggest issue of all." |
