An independent review of the controversial changes to the NHS in East Lancashire has been called for by Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice. He says any review should sound out the views of doctors and medical professionals as well as the general public and should include, as an option, the return of blue light A&E to Burnley. The MP has written to Health Minister, Ann Keen, calling for the matter to be addressed as soon as possible. Speaking from Westminster, the MP said: “Changes to the NHS must be led by clinicians and have the approval of local people.” “Pendle and Burnley councils have both passed resolutions calling for the sacking of the East Lancashire Hospitals Board but refuse to meet the Trust until after the appointment of a new Chief Executive which, I am told, could be as far away as July. The Liberal Democrat leadership of both councils are also dragging their feet when it comes to handing over to the Primary Care Trust the dossier of so-called horror stories which they have compiled. The sooner that is analysed the better.” “The destabilising effect on the local NHS of this drip feed of allegations should not be underestimated.” The MP contacted all GPs in Pendle last month seeking their views on the changes. |
