Pendle MP, Gordon Prentice, has welcomed the news that Lancashire County Council intends to fund concessionary transport for people with disabilities before 9.30 a.m.

Since the introduction of the new national concessionary scheme in April this year, district councils had withdrawn funding for the 50 pence flat rate travel concession for the disabled.

The MP commented: “The Government’s concessionary scheme for free travel after 9.30 for the over 60s has been a great success, making a huge difference to the lives of many older people.

“But the withdrawal of the subsidised fare before 9.30 for people with disabilities by district councils was an unintended consequence. A number of Pendle people had been in touch with me about it and I am delighted that the County Council intends to put things right this autumn.”

Note to editors:

The flat rate fare will apply to people who have a Disabled NoW card concessionary travel pass. The scheme should be in place during October.
