Local MP, Gordon Prentice, has added his voice to those paying tribute to John Motson who has retired from the BBC after 37 years of reporting.

The Commons motion congratulates him for his trademark superlative live commentary on the televised European Championship 2008 Final on Sunday 29th June and wishes him a well-deserved retirement.

Speaking from Westminster, the MP said: "John Motson always caught the atmosphere in his commentary. Football on television won't be the same without him."

Note to Editors: The Commons motion reads: That this House pays tribute to BBC football commentator John Motson after a career of 37 years reporting; notes with acclaim his professionalism and deep statistical knowledge of clubs and players; congratulates him for his trademark superlative live commentary on the televised European Championship 2008 Final on Sunday 29th June; wishes him a well-deserved retirement; and trusts that there may be opportunities for him to be afforded occasional cameo further appearances to remind audiences of the special qualities which made him a much admired great British institution.
